The CIA warned as early as 1995 that Islamic extremists were likely to attack U.S. aviation, Washington landmarks or Wall Street and by 1997 had identified Osama bin Laden as an emerging threat on U.S. soil, a senior intelligence official said Thursday.

Geezus.. I'll be happy when the media finally quits trying to milk this story and give up on the blame game.

Sure they are going to attack civil aviation.. with inflight bombings ala Pan Am 103, or via hijackings.

But few really conceived as credible that they would actually use civilian airliners to attack buildings..

And how would anyone have prevented that, given the proclivity of hijacked passengers to "behave themselves" in hopes they get out of their predicament alive..

What's NOW pertinent is that we're HIGHLY unlikely to see another such attack using passenger planes. No passenger in their right mind will just sit there and permit some terrorist to let them take them on a one-way trip to some target.

I'm worried about cargo aircraft hijacking a crew, but most of all I'm worried about shipping containers being used to target port facilities and cities.

They all just need to face the fact that unless you're willing to lock down your borders, the only way we're going to be reasonably safe is by targeting those who would seek to carry out such actions.

And that means targeting those governments and nations that might be amenable to assisting them.

Much as I despise some of the incompetence of the Clinton administration, I can't blame him for not averting a 9/11..

We just couldn't comprehend the lengths to which these militants were willing to resort to attack the US.

But now we have difficulty NOT comprehending the potential scenarios, and trying to figure out how to protect ourselves from them while not giving up the very freedoms we seek to protect.

KLP- Clinton is not running for president. He already did and won twice. Bush is running for president. Since he likes vacations so much the voters will give him a four year vacation while President Kerry works in the White House.
