Kerry has never supported any bill with a 50 cent gas tax in it. Ever. He just suggested it once, but so did Dick Cheney. Ten years ago when a lot of people were discussing it include Republicans.

"If Kerry's gas tax had become law.." BS
"If Cheney's gas tax had become law.." so what?

Neither gas tax idea was ever enacted or even brought before the congress. See how dishonest propaganda works versus factual criticism. Factual criticism would say "Kerry once leaned toward a gas tax as one option on how to help balance the budget". That would be fair. So long as they admit Cheney did too. Just like Bush Sr. and top GOP leaders supported most if not all of Kerry's defense and intelligence votes. They wanted the same things cut, all the old Cold War stuff we didn't need anymore. Remember Cheney boasting about the "peace dividend" back during Bush Sr'.s admin? That's the same thing they're blaming Kerry for now. It doesn't hurt, it needs needs to be exposed to prove Cheney-Bush are total liars and phonies. Kerry has gone up in the polls a bit since Bushies started their 50 million dollar TV ad LIE buys. I'm glad they wasted their money but they still have no right to openly lie.
