Well yes, certain anchors do emphasize what they want the message to be. I haven't been aware of Rather doing that (and I don't watch him much) but a small bit of bias can come through. Remember though, anchors have very little say about what news they read. When the rightwing attacks Rather they are really attacking the messenger, and giving themselves cover as they blatantly write and spin the news on talk radio and Fox News.

Fox News is basically an outlet of the White House, though sometimes they do it in subtle ways. For instance, they call the war on Iraq "the war on terror" which is only is if you believe the White House spin. In fact Iraq arguably had little or nothing to do with the real war on terrorism. Now there are terrorists there I'm sure, but very few except retired ones back in 2002.
