U.S. has 'lost its head' in Iraq

04/16/04

I heard on the radio last week that U.S. troops had killed more than 280 Iraqi civilians in five days in Fallujah. The American troops were attempting to "pacify" Fallujah in the wake of the recent killing and mutilation of four Americans in the city.

Yes, it's horrible and wrong that four innocent Americans were killed and their bodies mutilated. In America, if something similar were to happen, those responsible would be arrested and tried for the crime in a fair and legal way.

And this should be the case, regardless of the hideousness of an act.

In Iraq, it seems that the United States has lost its head, and instead of acting according to the principles that guide us here, we have reacted furiously and terribly, without thought and with violence out of proportion to the original incident.

What we are doing in Fallujah is not war, it is massacre. I am sickened and saddened and angered by the actions of the American military and the Bush administration in Iraq.
