Hi Malcolm - Incomplete DD isn't zero DD, of course. And I have found that minimal DD doesn't work well either.

I allocate my time so I spend about 2-10 hours of reserach before buying on each company. There is also extensive time spend learning about each sector - Canadian natural gas trusts, small US E&Ps, copper production and use, nickle use, etc.

Since I tend to make sector oriented allocations and then pick companies, the sector understanding gets used for a number of companies.

Stops still help when the company or sector falls out of favor an heads down. Getting out with a small loss or moderate gain is better than being wedded to a stock.
