Thanks for the links. I read all in their entirety.

From what I can get out of it is this:

The 1500 Madrassas have enrollment of about 1 million with some coming from as far away as Nigeria and Thailand.

They are funded from all over the Moslem world including what I would guess large amounts from Saudi Arabia.

They teach reading and writing and all the lessons from the Koran in a fundamental fashion.

There are some reports that these "schools" teach warfare. I don't get an actual feeling as to how many of these Madrassas actually do that.

My gut feeling is that most of these Mardrassas teach reading and writing from the Koran in a very fundalmentist manner.

Knowing kids as I do, I doubt many of these kids walk away with anything more than the ability to read and write possibly on the Junior High School level.

About 10 percent of these kids will have learned the lessons being taught and they will dislike everything that is not strictly kosher (I mean from the Koran). That includes all the things and people that advocate modernity - including almost all of their intellectuals, people educated in the West, and those that are financially successful (many of those that are funding these schools).

About 2 or 3 percent of those enrolled will have or develop psychotic hatred. A handful of those will actually try to plot and act out their hatred - enough to really cause horrific damage.

I think we can all agree (including a lot of Moslems) that these people are dangerous and can cause some real damage.

The remedy is where we may have some disagreements.

In my opinion (not worth very much) we should not paint the situation with a broad brush. We have to try to understand the nuances - and carefully try not to demonize (give or take) a billion people.

I am no role model (as someone once said). I give up trying to save the world. I am just going to take the afternoon off and let my anger get the better of me - watching the Yankees play the Red Sox.
