sounds to me you have a conflict between programs. I had that type of problem where different programs where trying to perform the same function.

In Zone Alarm I now have
Firewall
Internet security HI
Trusted Zone MED
Pivacy
Cookie Control OFF
Ad Blocking OFF
Email Protection
Inbound OFF
Outbound OFF
Email OFF

This because I have McAffe Virus scan settings
System Scan ACTIVE
Download Email scan ACTIVE
HAWK for Outlook INACTIVE (even though I have it set)
Firewall NOT INSTALLED

I have AD SUBTRACT for cookie control. I have the custom site filters nicely tuned for minimum interference.

I had (maybe still have) a problem with McAffe Virus scan not loading itself, and unloading itself, but I just re ticked the "Load on startup" in the control panel icon. Sometimes I wonder if the XP updates untick it.

Internet security tab using XP (in control panel)
Also I wonder if the XP security default setting are interfering with these three programs. There is loads of stuff in those settings I know nothing about though.

/edit to previous message. I also have Motherboard Monitor five load up on startup. I keep a log on the CPU temperature. A higher running temperature means there is extra things going on.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Zone Labs Technical Support. There is a
possibility that the Internet logs need to be deleted. If that
doesn't resolve the issue then a complete uninstall and reinstall
need to be done.

Thank You

Download the new version #4.5.594.000. Check the preference tab of the overview section manually update and save the new version to your disk. It's been out a couple of days. I have seen advice to uninstall the original version before installing the new one but I opted to let ZA do it itself. No problems...yet
