not sure that is a valid assumption. Unions have been having trouble keeping membership for some years.

ceo salaries are way out of sightas well as upper management. They work for shareholders and board of directors control ceo salaries. I think inroads are being made to clear out friendly ceo directors but this will take a very long time.
In other cases it is a competitive market and if a company wants the best qualified ceo they have to buy him/her.

My point was the auto industry was ours to give away. It was the best in the world, great jobs, great cars , great unions. However, we got lazy.
