That too was never done by Clinton. But I want a peaceful, non-corrupt Palestinian state,

And were he to say that, it would not be the truth. After all, the entire point of Oslo, Camp David, and Wye River, was for the purpose of creating a process that would lead to a Palestininan state.

And Clinton was the major impetence towards attempting to press Oslo forward.. (and you know that I'm not particularly keen on Clinton.. but the truth is the truth).

In case you guys have not yet gotten the message, business as usual in the Middle East ended for me on Sept 11, 2001. No more running to me to demand that I put out the Israeli/Pal bonfire that you all are pouring gasoline over behind the scenes. I'm not playing that game anymore."

And he couldn't have made the same kind of statement with directly endorsing Israel's retention of settlements in the West Bank, effectively given Palestnian peace opponents new ammunition for rejecting any peace proposal?

Come on... He didn't do himself any favors in trying to achieve the mission of creating peace, by being publicly seen as siding with Israel in such a manner.

He could have, IMO, warned that they were these peace terms rejected, that he might be unwilling, or unable, to pressure Israel over those settlements, and that Palestinian intransigence might lead to those settlements being made permanent...

But he didn't have to be so openly supportive that he effectively reduced our flexibility to interact with both sides as an honest broker, using a carrot/stick approach.

First, who says he didn't, and second, exposed to whom?

Mubarak said he was not briefed by Bush during his stay at Crawford about making a public statement supporting Israel's retention of settlements in the West Bank.

We just gave Mubarak a HUGE present, the names of all the Saddamite agents in his government.

Apparently I missed that story.. Do you have a link?
