What I saw was a guy trying to destroy an elderly and well-respected man, and failing utterly. I thought Heston came across looking quite gracious, and Moore came across as a punk.

Wrong, Wes Clark ran as a democrat. No way could he be considered independent. Moore is a liberal...nothing else.

He backed Wes Clark who was the most independent candidate.
