The NRA wants to turn the US into Iraq where everyone has an assault rifle. All part of their paranoid Armageddon vision where the whites and blacks battle to the death, but the whites win because they're more heavily armed. A lot of sickos in that organization. Real hunters and responsible gun owners don't need those wackos fronting for them. Kerry is a real hunter and gun-owner. He is a top marksman. He shoots dove for dinner sometimes. Maybe he should shoot chickenhawks too. Plenty of those in the White House and rightwing leadership. In fact they all are.

we can go back to killing each other with revolvers and shotguns, like civilized people.

How about knives and truncheons?

The ONLY problem with "assault weapons" is that they accomodate large magazines

Well ALL semi-autos could have large capacity magazines built for them. So "assault weapons" means ALL semi-autos.

and can be converted into fully automatic weapons.
Guns aren't high tech items. Any metal pipe under your sink could be made into a machine gun receiver. Are we going to ban all pipes?

There are plenty of rifles that are more accurate.
Bolt actions are slightly more accurate because the barrel are not tapped for gas operation of the bolt. The difference is barely measureable at normal ranges of less than 600 yards.

Assault Weapon proponents like to say that these weapons allow people to spray as fast as you can pull the trigger. Well that also describes a revolver. ARe they going to ban revolvers next? And what about after that, free speach? And after that are we all going to have to become Freemasons else be labeled as subversives?

Since semi-autos with bayonet lugs and flash suppressors are used in less than 1% of gun crimes, how about banning something more dangerous like backyard pools.

I thought the whole idea of the "right to bear arms" was to allow us to rise up and overthrow a government that got too uppity. It used to include ALL arms. Then they made full-auto machine guns hard to get. ( yes, you CAN still buy them, with the right taxes and papers ) Now, it's assault weapons.

But really, how are we going to overthrow the government without some F-22's, nukes, tanks and the rest of the hardware we'd need? It's become moot. Might as well make all firearms illegal for citizens.
