Good catch ...the Templeton Foundation award.... South Africa has come such a long long way since Ghandi practiced law there and Nelson Mandela was imprisoned and apartheid, fear and slavery ruled for so long . And now S. Africa has made such an amzing turn towards a multicultural democracy and an inclusive society . What has happened there given the past oppression, is relative harmony of a post-apartheid society that could be hailed as quite remarkable. Looking a little farther north to the never ending violence of the "Holy Lands" of Allah and Jehova, the slaughter in Rwanda and Somali ,
it is quite remarkable indeed .<g>

"He has demonstrated how genuine religious and theological perspectives can help us understand the constitution and character of our universe in terms of 'kenosis,' self-sacrificing love," Stoeger wrote, adding that Ellis had shown, "that our universe seems to be particularly suited for fostering that attitude and practice, and to require it for its harmonious functioning at every level."

Funny that theological idea of "kenosis" should be called Christian , when it is found purely & clearly from long before in Hinduism ...when God chooses to assume human form ? This is old stuff , far older than Jesus or Moses and there were practicing pacifists documented quite well in the religion of the Jains over in India , that even Jesus could have learned a few things from in the realm of daily self sacrifice .

Referring to On the Moral Nature of the Universe, Ellis added, "Indeed it is only if ethics is of this nature that it has a truly moral character, that is, it represents a guiding light that we ought to obey." He believes, along with co-author Murphy, that kenotic behavior is "deeply imbedded in the universe, both in ethics and in other aspects of our lives" and that it is the only way to achieve what might otherwise be "rationally impossible" in a world fraught with war and insecurity.

Yes indeed there is a "wisdom of the body" present in each human being ...a will to heal that should be explored more fully . And the body is a product of an interaction we call evolution from the dawn of time up through the inorganic to the organic . When one looks to the Ayurveda of the Hindu , one finds a science and belief going back to ancient times that looks upon the entire Universe as having an "intelligence" and the human body is part of the cosmic body, and the human mind is part of the cosmic mind, and the atom and the universe are exactly the same thing but with different form .

You see Greg... size doesn't really matter when it comes down to it seeing spiritual essences.
