Greg...we have discussed uncounted topics here from humanism/philosophy , biology/physics, sociology/psychology to theology & evolution. Why is it "intolerance" to you that i posted a bit of a skeptical piece on that "miracluous" conversion of Emperor Constantine at the end of his bloody murderous life here ? Message 20029995 Because I choose not to say or believe that it was due to an late stage epiphany or holy relevation ... but think it was more due to the allure of eternal life automatically granted by the clause of conversion of forgivness of sin alotted to any that would convert before their passing . Constantine must have been so relieved by this assurance, as well as those that followed who took up the sword and firebrands to go on a rampage of persecutions of Jews and Pagans that lasted for the next 1000yrs . Please show me where I am wrong or exhibiting "intolerance" by looking at the facts and history from other POV's ? These facts are "universally" accepted , by many scholars too. Solon has repeatedly suggested to you that this God of the Bible you claim is never changing and so compassionate, has indeed done just that , and has gone from being a thunderbolt wielding tribal genocidal maniac , killing every man woman and child before him in every horrible way , to match any and all of the worst nightmares man has ever imagined or glorified . The killing fields of yesterday throughout the entire "Holy Land" attests to this long before the Ceasars came , and still do today . If we are talking about man transcending greed , man unifying himself under the yoke of peace and non-attachment to materiality , as it seems is the basis of most of what Jesus taught , then why not discuss the root elements of that teaching . If the teaching itself is to stand the test of time's reflection and meditation , then why not try and sway the thoughts of others with that essence? If something is there that is praiseworthy , life giving and breathes "enlightenment" for and throughout eternity for mans very soul , then surely there is a better and easier more direct way for you to convey this without the crusade mentality...of this way and no other . If you are to extol the virtues of self-sacrificing love, charity and piety then do that thing . Just what is your view if it wont accept the many other examples of that same self sacrifice outside the walls of your own particular belief system , but we are also talking about the wider scope of human experience here as well as other teachings and source-knowledge . I don't have any problem accepting 1st or Second Peter as the God-breathed word of God. However for the purpose of the discussions here I was focusing on the earliest and universally recognized writings by Paul and Luke. Then quote them , and go directly to the source . Or paraphrase if you like . After Christ , what matter would it be which authority should you quote , but be very aware that anything Christianity will lay claim too , was already in the minds of men to have found an audience or struck a cord already from before. Something already present in our nature , perhaps something "divine" of you will. God "breathed" his words in who's ears ? The ones that killed every man woman child in Jericho ? Sent plagues and pestilence , and created the "Holy Jhiad" or Hareme of the Holy Ones long before the Romans came ? Prove to me why this "holy word" is more sacred than others , or the realization of the psyche of peace, brotherhood of man , or the truth and beauty of the muse should be found only in your one set of manipulated doctrines . And you cannot even agree with other Christians on those doctrines , even today. Yet even to this day , Christians still believe in burying their dead with physical body intact in ornate wooden boxes , believing in the "physical" resurrection . About time for a change wouldn't you say and maybe go (dig) a little deeper ?
