Holocaust survivor had to speak out

SEAN MYERS CALGARY HERALD

Oscar Kirshner wanted nothing more than to forget the horrors he experienced as an inmate of Auschwitz during the Second World War, but the insulting efforts of Holocaust deniers spurred him to come forward to tell his terrible tale.
He and nearly 800 of Calgary’s Jewish community came together for Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday to remember the Nazi atrocities that led to the deaths of six million Jews during the Second World War.
Kirshner says it was the publicity surrounding Holocaust denier and former Eckville teacher Jim Keegstra in the 1980s that led him to start talking openly of his experiences.
“Up until then, you couldn’t get me to say anything about it,” said Kirshner, 78. “We didn’t want to talk about it. We wanted to forget, but when he started talking about it, saying it didn’t happen, we felt if we don’t tell what we know about it, it would be just a story.
“I come from a family of nine kids, (after the war) there was only two of us left alive. . . . My parents were taken out into the woods and shot.”
Although Holocaust Memorial Day, or Yom Ha-Shoah, has been observed for many years at the Calgary Jewish Centre and the Beth Tzedec Synagogue, this was the first year it was recognized nationally.

I am not saying you deny the Holocaust; only that you use the same flawed methodology that they do."

You are an IDIOT. I have never said a word about the holocaust. I have only cuffed you for your insane belief...that your superstition is racially better than any of a thousand other superstitions. Are you a stupid pig, my boy?
