I didn't think the article was particularly illuminating. The key here is that Kodak always considered digital as a technology that should be allowed to proceed ONLY if it didn't compete with conventional film technology. Therefore, Kodak went about developing ways to sell photographic paper for digital prints, Kodak processing centers for digital (an oxymoron, if you ask me, since there is no chemistry for development of digital images), all the while avoiding the reality, which was that digital would render conventional film obsolete, except for special applications. Kodak is not three years behind in its acceptance of digital. The fact is that top manaagement NEVER has accepted it as a stand alone technology, but only as an adjunct to conventional film. This attitude is all the more bizarre, since at one point, Kodak was the leader in sensor technology, software for transfering the digital image to a computer, and improved display technology. Hey, at the rate they're going, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kodak coming out with a Carousel projector for digital slides. After all, it's been quite a long time since the Carousel was the leading display, so isn't this the right time for revival? Art
