I guess you don't realize how much more Bush would do for the Israelis if he could. He's holding Sharon back, and he's got Sharon by the short and curlies. Bush would love to let Sharon loose, is my guess.

It is the Saudis and OPEC who are keeping him from doing more for the Israelis, and yes, the Saudis and OPEC do have a great deal of power, in the short term, so yes, the Saudis and OPEC have us by the short and curlies.

If they raise oil prices too much or cut off the supply, then the US will start producing its own oil, and that will make Texans rich again.

So, it's in Bush's financial interest, as a Texan, to tell the Saudis and OPEC to kiss his ass, and unleash the Israelis finally do what they want to do to the Palestinians, starting with Arafat.

And yet, this doesn't happen? Why?

My guess is that Japan and Europe would suffer far more than the US would from high gas prices, and that would disrupt the global economy, including, of course, China. If we told the Saudis and OPEC to kiss our ass, you'd be the ones who would suffer the worst, not us.

So, we all have each other by the short and curlies - that's called globalization. ;^)

But as for the Israelis - we feel compassion, and we feel a sense of brotherhood and mutual respect based on shared values. They are the only bright spot in the Middle Eastern shit hole.
