But Walmart model encourages overconsumption, which place strains on natural resources and the environment. What does that mean, in English? That if goods are cheaper, you'll buy more of them. Would you really buy more toothpaste if it was cheaper? Some things, like books and CDs, you'd probably buy more of if they were cheaper. I hope you donate your used books and CDs to charity, so that poorer people can use them after you are done. They'd probably like to buy them new, but can't afford to. Is it a good thing that these things are expensive? Good for the environment that children can't afford new school books and notebooks and pencils? Good for the environment that children can't afford new shoes? Good for the environment that their parents can't afford washing machines so they can wear clean clothes? I don't see any absolutes here, only a lot of relative goods that need to be balanced.
