Sayonara, Sanyo.

On April 8, Sanyo Electric said it will give the company's top post to Tomoyo Nonaka, 50 years old, a former television newscaster and a member of the company's board of directors. Sanyo also promoted Vice President Toshimasa Iue, the grandson of its founder, to president and chief operating officer.

The selection of Ms. Nonaka attracted attention not only because she will be a rare woman in an industry dominated by men, but because she has no management or manufacturing experience. The appointments will be finalized at Sanyo's shareholders meeting in June.
