my objection is to the idea of "damage" done in perpetuity by year one teething.

I doubt the damage is permanent. Overall, the Reliance brand name is probably too strong to have much damage done with 6 million subscribers complaining over a period of a couple of months.

It is entirely possible that they purposely slowed down sub growth to concentrate on network issues and scrubbing the base of non-paying subs. Hopefully, that is the case. If Reliance is going to make its own '04 sub goals, they'll probably need to see an upturn in the next couple of months. If I remember correctly, their internal target was for 25 million subscribers by year-end....even if they meant their fiscal year (March '05), that would still be 1.5 million new subs per month
