Maybe part of me is just naive and doesnt want to believe the horrors that await us from these bastards. Mike, the sad fact is that sooner or later one of these mass events will occur. I suspect the terrorists' tactics are to plan as many as possible, anticipate that many will not be successful, but expect results on the odd one that will slip through the security net. This is borne out by the sheer number of the aborted attempts. What is new is that their planned scope seems to be increasing. Thus far, most of them seem directed at Europe, Jordan, and Israel while we appear to be presently immune. This state of affairs will not continue. I had an interesting discussion with JohnM some time ago concerning the idea that terrorism like this was a signal that Islamofascism was on the wane. A scholar's idea that such was the case--and my retort that the notion was ridiculous--was the basis of the discussion. I now hope that I was wrong.

Maybe part of me is just naive and doesnt want to believe the horrors that await us from these bastards ~~ Michael, you have already seen some of that horror, as you were in NYC that 9-11 day. While most of us weren't there to smell the smoke, and death, and destruction of that day, and the months that followed, in another way, we were all there...24/7 via TV on every minute of that time. It is human to try to turn away from something that is so vile and repugnant to our way of life....but I feel we MUST NOT turn away. We MUST face this with courage and conviction, or otherwise we will doom our children, and their children for as long as we can think about, to a life that is not at all like the one we have known. We either face facts, as they are, and not as we wish them to be, or we too, will be living in the 7th century with the sand and camels.
