I agree, that the market for Linux doesn't include the hobbyist, who has been working with Windows, knows how to install software but isn't clever enough to edit configuration files. But I'm frankly amazed, that he was able to get an article like this online there - maybe it's a sign that those hobbyists have actually started to use Linux and now want to see somebody else having the same problems as they do.

There is no doubt, that Microsoft wins when it comes to the hardware advice that computer retailers can give. If something doesn't work with Windows, you usually cannot buy it in a shop that sells standard PCs. It couldn't be easier to shop for Windows compatible hardware... :-)
