Like these allegations tend to be, the legal aspects of something like this are a little more complex than the average reporter can grasp.

There is certainly no indication at this point that anything illegal was done -- and I'd be willing to wager that a ton of legal opinions will back up the administration's position on it. This kind of stuff doesn't happen without the support of legal counsel.
