He won't have a valid IP address since he'll be needing to connect to your router to get one from DHCP. You could skip DHCP assign it an IP like (i.e. 192.168.1.10) and tell it the gateway address and subnet mask (192.168.1.1 and 255.255.255.0) and the DNS addresses, but it'll be moot if it can't see the WAP or router. if it pings, then i'll type the ip into IE and see if i can configure his card that way. The client devices don't have user interfaces like the WRT54G and WAP. You either have to configure them through the Windows tool or the utility that comes with the client nic. I haven't been on '98 in a long time, but I suspect your best bet is to use the Linksys utility. In the final analysis, I suspect he is too far away.
