Makes a lot of sense. I am trying to put some logic to this whole thing and to be objective.

The Al Queda guys are largely foreigners in Iraq. The local clerics probably are using them, or rather it is a type of symbiosis, as a way to grab relative power when the US does it's mysterious "hand-off."

Otherwise, why would they prefer foreigners who kill local kids over the Americans who may have screwed up but clearly can't be compared with Al Queda.
