Mazda has been sliding since '95-96, and I think that corresponds to the time of Ford's effective takeover of Mazda's direction. I have been driving Mazda's since '78 ... 150K miles on an RX7, and 80K each on 2 MX5's ('90 and '94, traded only 'cause I wanted more luxury features in the latter.) Also two MPV vans '89 (140K) and '93 (130K so far) and the '93 MPV still drives better than my partners '98 Chrysler town and country (55K). The Chrysler costs a mint to repair and it has had numerous problems, while the pre-Ford MPV's just keep running. Newer Mazda vans are based on the Ford truck frame and ride like it; up until '95 they were on the Mazda 929 luxury car frame ... much better ride and handling. Ford has ruined Mazda IMO.
I hope I can keep the '94 MX5 running forever; its a real sticker shock when I see what the US car makers are asking for their junk.

Funny you mentioned that...I drove a rental Mazda 6 last week and was VERY impressed with the ride, damn near went out and bought one when I got home.<NG>
