At the COMEX, gold for June delivery closed $6.90 lower at $391.40 an ounce. Gold set a 15-year high at $433 on April 1.

COMEX May silver closed down 77.5 cents at $6.17 an ounce. Silver prices had set a 16-year high at $8.50 on April 2.

COMEX May copper slid to a 10-week low at $1.2050 a pound before closing at $1.2275, down 8.25 cents.

New York Mercantile Exchange metals were also hit, with NYMEX July platinum closing down $31.20 at $884.50 an ounce and June palladium down $21.10 an ounce at $295.25.
