Good environmental policy has been shown to be good for the economy too!

As an example, those opposed to the Clean Air / Clean Water act asked the same question: "Where are we going to get the funding?" It ends up the new industries that cropped up to address the pollution issues boosted the economy significantly (to say nothing about the benefits of having breathable air and drinkable water!).

Right now our oceans are in serious trouble primary because of pollution and over-fishing. If we could figure out a way to restore the balance, so sea life could be restored to the abundance of just 50 years ago - we could harvest far more fish from the sea!

Engagement on these types of issues (like Global Warming, coastal protection, ocean management, etc.) is far superior to neglect (i.e. the Bush approach).
