so what? If an Arab-American lived in Jordan, I don't automatically say he is unfair, and unfit to try to solve
a near intractable problem by having all parties compromise.

I think we need to get beyond that Thomas..

Arafat was not born in Palestine, so how come he is the Palestinian leader?

This is why you have little credibility. You post anti-Israeli blog messages. Then you refer to them as precedent. Then the precedent becomes further evidence for your later theories.

All or most of your theories have a common theme, and that is that Israel controls the US government in some fashion. Yet, the US constantly warns Israel or restricts Israel in ways that we do not do ourselves. E.g., Israel should be concerned about its actions in killing the murderous terror leaders, while the US kills Saddam's leadership and his progeny, and is now seeking to kill Sadr. Israel was condemned by the US for attacking Saddam's nucleare capability. Your blog evidence notwithstanding, there is no nuclear WMD in Iraq, largely because of Israel, and the US is privately thankful.

What you don't realize, and what apparently bothers you the most, is that the support for Israel is deep within the American fabric and strong throughout our history. Although there have beeen differences, e.g. 1956 Suez, support for a strong Israel has been strong in both polls and with politicians, irresepective of party or other beliefs.

There are many reasons for this. One reason is historic, yes the need for a homeland after the suffering of the Holocaust. Another is an association with the people. Another is a connection with the righteousness of the cause. The US finds it easier to associate with those who are fighting terror, rather than with the cowardly terrorist organizations like Hamas.

Your slant and style fosters hatred and then you whine and moan when someone points out that very fact.

The vast majority of Israelis would trade land for real peace and security within a defensible border, not the 8 mile wide border of 1967, but some modification with minimal settlement retention. The problem that you don't understand is that it is suicide to negotiate with those who publicly call for your extermination and show every sign that they will carry it out. Would the US have negotiated with OBL after 9/11? Israel suffers the equivalent of 9/11 on a regular basis because of the organizations such as Hamas and are justified in every way in the elimination of their leaders.

On the other hand, I would like Israel to make a strong stand for peace at this time. They are in a position of strength. Bush would probably facilitate and try to pull a Clinton, just to take attention away from Iraq. Israel's strong defensive attacks against terror have been nothing short of miraculous. This is the time to offer something constructive to the Palestinian Prime Minister and see if he can run with it.

So far, the Palestinian leadership, from Arafat to Hamas, has decided that it is better to be leaders, with their own power bases and riches, than to bring peace to their people. As for the bigger picture, the Arab leaders have cynically neglected their brothers, keeping them in camps, not using their vast resources both monetarily and in land. Why? Because having a common enemy keeps these tyrants in power.

If you are concerned with the well-being of the Palestinians, you should direct your ire at Arafat, Saddam, Mubarek, the House of Saud, Assad, and the other OILogarchs and tyrants of the Arab Mideast, not trying to libel every Jewish sounding name in a US administration.
