Harris Corporation Joins Boeing Team to Deliver Networked Airborne and Maritime Communications for JTRS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Apr 21, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Harris
Corporation (NYSE: HRS), a leading supplier of secure, tactical radios for
worldwide defense forces, today announced it is on Boeing's team to develop an
initial system architecture and design for the Department of Defense's
next-generation Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS), which is designed to meet
emerging airborne, maritime and fixed-site communications challenges. Harris
participation on the team is leveraged by the JTRS and cryptographic experience
of the company's RF Communications Division in Rochester, New York, and the
satellite and systems experience of Harris' Government Communications Systems
Division in Melbourne, Florida.

The Boeing team, comprised of leading platform integrators, hardware providers
and networking experts, is pursuing one of two $54 million, 15-month pre-System
Development and Demonstration (SDD) contracts for a JTRS variant that merges
airborne and maritime/fixed station communications requirements into a single,
combined acquisition approach. The program, referred to as the Airborne,
Maritime, Fixed Station (AMF) JTRS, will provide a networked communications
capability allowing all U.S. forces to communicate effectively in the joint
battlespace.

Harris is one of two developers and sources of supply for the JTR Set, leading
the design and integration of the maritime system, and developing the security
architecture. Harris is a leading maritime radio developer and manufacturer,
with extensive experience and expertise in JTRS radios, maritime communications
systems, maritime platform interfaces, and security and cryptographic systems.
Harris also is a key supplier of advanced HF communications systems to the U.S.
Navy.

In addition to the experience gained from producing its Falcon(R) II family of
software-defined radios, Harris has proven performance in demonstrating critical
JTRS technologies: JTRS-compatible hardware, Software Communications
Architecture (SCA) compliance, waveforms, and cryptology. Harris is an industry
leader in the development and manufacturing of JTRS radios to satisfy
requirements for the government's initiative to deploy software-defined radios.
Harris is a subcontractor on Boeing's winning JTRS Cluster 1 team and was
recently selected to incorporate the Harris Sierra(TM) cryptographic subsystem
into 100 percent of the Cluster 1 radios. Harris also is on the NetForce 5 team
in pursuit of JTRS Cluster 5.

AMF JTRS is the result of merging the JTRS airborne and maritime/fixed station
acquisitions into a single program under joint U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy
oversight. Two contracts will be awarded in June 2004 for the 15-month pre-SDD
phase, which will be executed concurrently by two prime contractors with support
from two radio suppliers. The ensuing SDD phase will be a full and open
competition with contract award anticipated in the fourth quarter of FY2005.

Harris Corporation is an international communications technology company focused
on providing assured communications(TM) products, systems and services for
government and commercial customers. The company's five operating divisions
serve markets for government communications, tactical radio, broadcast,
microwave, and network support systems. Harris provides systems and service to
customers in more than 150 countries. Additional information about Harris
Corporation is available at www.harris.com.
