Some of the hearsay claims from the "Winter Soldiers" meeting have been repudiated (that doesn't mean Kerry was wrong, he was repeating the claims). It is my understanding that some of the claims have been substantiated.

Kerry's recond as a Senator is fine. He tended to focus on corruption issues like Iran-Contra and BCCI. He received excellent reviews for his work on MIAs in Vietnam and the restoration of relations with that country. (This is something I like; Kerry can move beyond prior anger and this shows maturity).

Kerry's war record is fine. War sucks, just ask cnyndwllr or anyone else that has been in combat. My Dad will barely talk about it almost 60 years after WWII. (He readily talks about the good times and all the good people he met, but he hates that he had to kill so many Japanese) I've spoken with his squadron mates, and they all consider my Dad their hero ... it says a lot to me about him, and about war in general.

My Dad is a decorated Navy pilot and a life long Republican. When people started criticizing Kerry's recond, he signed up with the Kerry campaign! He thinks it is outrageous to attack a distinguished veteran, and I agree.
