<<btw, you seem to be saying that all these
atrocities weren't ordered by the brass>>

Wouldn't that make him a war criminal?

When JK spoke in 1971 he was including in "atrocities" the gunning down of non-combatants which was often ordered or tolerated. Of course, the troops were just scared and going nuts so you can't blame them for a lot of it. What was at fault was the no-point, no-plan, dishonest war to begin with. Only wars with reasons can be won. Vietnam and Iraq both were based on lies, had no real plans and were against countries which had not attacked us, nor were they any real threat to us except theoretically.

Again, JK apologized for his language so why hold it against him? He was a true hero and a very young man who came home very upset after going through living hell. He personally killed over 20 people and probably saw hundreds die. He came close to death many times himself. That has an affect on you. Give our war heros and break. Criticize those who chickened out and used their rich daddies to stay home like Cheney and Bush. Why criticize the hero instead of the chicken? doesn't even make any sense. The GOP is supposed to be pro-military, not pro draft dodger.
