Any idea how to convert U.S. dollars to Chinese yuan?

Yes - go to China
Otherwise it can not be done to best of my understanding
The RMB only exists there and is pegged to the US$.
There is no guarantee which way it will even move if they float it given the state of their banking problems and bad loans

one way to convert yuan into dollars is indirect
purchase Japanese equipment with yuan
build products
receive dollars from exported goods to USA

this begs the question
how do you convert yuan to yen?
dunno exactly
probably some credits involved
since Chinese purchase plenty of Japanese consumer goods

this dollar-yen-yuan triangle is gonna get VERY DICEY
just like the dollar-bond-gold triangle
both will show strain and give off massive curveballs
the experts will not get it right, not so easily
