I hope they do a good job. That is their duty to find out wrong doing. We do not want to know after the fact that he faked shrapnel to cut short his tour of duty. Or, that his commanders made up stories about his saving lives during combat and have to take back the medals that were given to him. Or, they scrubbed his records.

It is important that our Commander in Chief have unquestioned integrity so that if he had to - he could order other people's children into combat without raising unwarranted concern.

I blame Bill Clinton entirely for the situation that we are in now. He lowered our standards completely. Prior to Clinton, Bush I, and even Jimmy Carter, no one questioned their military service. There was nothing to question. You will notice how reluctant Bush I was in using military force. I think he faced some real combat situations.

The Bush people would be dumb at this stage of the play, in my estimation, to not be putting in their two cents worth to push these stories along. Kerry has left them more than enough openings and the Bush folk have publicly taken advantage of those openings. So I can't imagine they are not doing things in the background as well.

But I agree with you that the big dynamic is the reporter/shark thing as you picture it. And until something big breaks, which seems increasingly unlikely, or the info is basically all out, reporters will continue to push it. But, assuming there is no big problem for Kerry back in there somewhere, I don't see how focusing on this story for very long does good things for Bush.

So I expect it to end pretty soon.
