Neither principal wanted this. The "Uncle West" bunch are scouring for negatives, but I don't think there is enough "there" there. I think the interesting part of this whole affair is that nobody seems to learn that you should get this out up front. If you wait, you look bad.

Neither campaign has learned this. Remember how long it took the Bush folk to get his service records out. They, just on their own dumbness, kept that story alive well past its dying point. And the Kerry folk seem bent on matching them. The tax return issues will eat up public exposure time until they get it out.

On the examination of Kerry's activities against the Vietnam war, I agree, that it will go on. But I don't see how it represents much danger unless Kerry handles it badly. And he seems quite capable, at least right now, of doing so.

I've seen your stuff on the Kansas City stories. I don't see how any version you've put up puts him in any serious danger. There are simply too many ways for him to blunt it.

Shrum is supposed to be good at this stuff. He's gonna have to start performing soon.

Did you see this report at Drudge concerning extinction rates in Hawaii?

apnews.myway.com

Extinction rates in relatively small islands, where the at-risk specie cannot move elsewhere to escape whatever it is that threatens it, and can't evolve quickly enough to survive, have to logically be higher than anywhere else.

While this is probably a decent explanation for the bad eco-news, it sadly still doesn't do much to get the extinction rate down.

I last went to Kauai in early 90s; going again this Summer. I hope I find it like I left it.
