The surprise for me is Alaska. Alaska is about as red as a state as you can have. A Democrat getting elected to the Senate from Alaska should be as likely as Utah or Wyoming electing a Democrat, but it appears that an anti-nepotism streak is running strong there.

Yes, I've read about it and forgot it, too. My mind is on a couple of other things right now. I don't know much about Alaska politics but I seem to recall a Dem or two as governor. Does that sound right?

Colorado has a large liberal leaning city in Denver, plus about half of the recent people who moved there came from California.

The surprise to me was that the Rep Senator resigned. My impression was that the seat was his for as long as he wished to keep it. And he was not terribly advanced in age, at least by Senate standards.
