Your script is more appealing than Jay's. But...and perhaps this is an over-simplification, wasn't the industrial revolution fueled by cheap and abundant energy? If folks like Hubbert, Heinberg or even Matt Simmons are right, then we've left ourselves very little runway to make a smooth transition to alternative energy sources - none of which are as "efficient" as oil. Just a thought...

... how about OFDM-modulated a la Wi-MAX? Don't want to diss QCOM, or get into wireless religious wars or anything, but the UMTS roadmap to my mind will fall by the wayside to an 802.16e development path.

A minor point in the context of your post ... but couldn't resist. ;)
