The issue is not whether we get to keep Iraq because we did all the fighting. The issue is not that becuase we did all the fighting we should get to decide the next course of action.

I think the issue is how do we rebuild Iraq and make it a beacon of democracy in the Arab world. IN rebuilding efforts, we took the right first step and gained the goodwill if the Iraqis by removing Saddam. Now the Iraqis want to rebuild their own country with the help of the other countries including the US. The US on the other hand wants to decide how it should move forward. It started with not allowing the other countries in, not hiring ex party members of Baath back etc. etc.

Bush held out adamantly against all these and not only lost the initial goodwill of the common Iraqi but in the process has invited their wrath. And Bush is letting thing go very slowly and that too under pressure of the US elections, IMO. Now he has given the green light to hire ex-Baath party members.

So it is not Bush bashing. Both Kerry and Bush has said that they do not want Iraq to fail. The disagreement is over "how" they are going to ensure that.
