This is just a guess, but my immediate reaction to learning that the lens kit might be off with regard to "backfocusing" at the macro setting is that anybody that serious about macro photography would probably want one or two stand-alone macro lenses (in 35mm speak, a 50mm and a 100mm macro) rather than a zoom with a macro capability.
