It's too late to do anything about our dependence on Middle East oil so we have to put up with these despotic regimes whose views on human rights are still firmly rooted in the middle ages. I often wonder why previous administrations did not realize and encourage more investment in this hemisphere. For example, the Athabaska Oilsands in Northern Canada contain more oil than the entire Arabian peninsula, then there is South America, the Gulf of Mexico, Western Canada, etc. etc. The Saudis would only appear in the occasional issue of National Geographic .
