Yes they do. They think of it in terms of results.

Let see, you think that 1-5-10-15 years from now we are going to have this great Muslim (Disneyland like) democracy in Iraq. The Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites are all going to be the best of friends, sharing a chamber of the Iraqi Parliment. While some benevolent Iraqi President talks of doves and peace. Right.

We've thrown Iraq into at least a generation of civil war. 100,000's of casualties. At some point in time, after we have been driven out of the country (the sooner the better), they will figure a way to form a government (or governments) based on their principles. It always works that way... look around.

And that's the way it should be. Self-determination, not nation building. You know that; it was taught in Conservative 101.
