A m^3 is 10^6 cm. One cm^3 will weigh .0198 kg or 19.8 gms. Taking "a few hundred" to mean 300, 15 cm^3 would be sufficient. This could be a 1" by 1/2" by 3" package- -about the size of a stick of gum.

HOWEVER that is just the plutonium and does not include the explosive material to compress it to critical mass, nor the electronics controls needed to control that explosion. So "a stick of gum" does appear to be wishful thinking. Also, to my knowledge, nobody has ever solved the problems involved in fabricating a nuclear device that small.

I'd believe your suitcase. But not a stick of gum.
