There is no easy answer to this one...

I agree. It's quite a sticky wicket and I fear the worst is yet to come.

For example, I believe that if the current administration is with us next year, a draft is inevitable. Common sense tells me that their goals dictate a larger fighting force. This isn't my preference, it's just what I think will happen.

And if our goal in Iraq is a free and democratic government, I fear we are wasting our time and treasure and blood. The people of Iraq must ultimately have their way, whether we like it or not. And if our goal is counter to theirs, the war is going to be a constant struggle until we tire of it. If their way is a theocratic Islamic government, that is what it will be and anything we do contrary to that will be wasted effort on our part.

Do you know what our goal is in Iraq? Now that I think about it, I'm not sure that I do, but I suspect it's a democracy that mirrors ours. Do you think that can be made to work?
