thecow, just a little progress report on my old Win98 desktop: I had lost connectivity with the network [the other pc is a laptop connected wirelessly via Linksys router.] Laptop has no problems, but desktop does not connect any more - even though NIC tests ok. I reinstalled Win98 today - same thing. Think I'll move this old machine to another room and restrict it to dial-up. Which will be my excuse to buy a new desktop. I've been looking at Fry's and it seems $600 - $700 will do it. Plus monitor. The Sony RS410 is a little more, $750. Dell is out because they now charge Californians sales tax.

Had to download an exe file from the Hayes site to get Windows to install the Hayes modem properly on the desktop.
Right now it's upgrading via dial-up from IE4 to IE6. I'm using free Juno for that and Juno disconnects from time to time because it thinks I'm not active. Makes me appreciate broadband. :)

I was running the desktop without ZA for now, because the ZA download would not install. But I do have Avast! av.
