Well, I might have an opinion on that if I knew what a "counter-insurgency campaign" was.

I thought armies were good for fighting and killing enemies and that men who could do it in one place well, could do it in another just as well.

The reason I wrote my post is because of the efforts of Rumsfeld and others to distinguish Iraq from Vietnam by laying some of the "lost war" burden on the "draftees and conscripts" as compared to the "all volunteer army. I'm sure our soldiers now are excellent, I only meant to point out that the "draftees and conscripts" were red-blooded, tough American soldiers also.
