I may be conservative, but I doubt that many of those who died chose the military for a career. I think many of those in the military did so for a fair deal, a opportunity to serve the country for some training, travel and education money.

I dont like the idea that many have done so because they are from poorer economic status. I dont think the draft is the answer. I think a $2 tax on gasoline would be a better deal with the vast majority of that to help pay the real cost of our imported oil. The real cost should go a long way towards including the payment of better compensation for the military.

If we need more people serving combat pay should be much higher. You can be sure the civilians in harms way are getting a substantial premium. I know I have earned hazardous duty pay for working in dangerous environments.
