Despite all the poking at Joe, I have seen first hand that many regular voting Canadians like the man. They don't have specific reasons that some of us hailing from the former PC's might have for not supporting him.

I did tour and advance work a few times for him when he was Leader of the party - in public venues you might be surprised at the very warm reception Clark got. Many, many, ordinary folks would go out of their way to come up and thank him. I remember one very burly logger come up to him and give Clark an honest to goodness bear hug.

While publicly Conservatives will dismiss this, and a number of us who are involved in organizing for the party will criticize Clark, the reality is that there is a pretty significant block of former PC voters who are influenced by Clark.

There are also those voters who, I believe, would have voted PC this time around, perhaps for the first time or for the first time in a decade.

I personally know quite a few people who wanted to vote PC who will not vote for the new Conservative Party. They know I was involved with the PCs and am now involved with the CPC - but Harper turns them off.

I don't see burly logger-types coming up to Harper for a hug.

LOL

Anyway... its fine to laugh at ol' Joe but I do believe there will be an impact.
