The RNC would LOVE it if Kerry sued liars like Drudge for libel. They themselves would be buffered from the process and it would hurt Kerry even he were 100% right. They did the same thing to Clinton when they paid for a woman to come forth and sue him for rape. Clinton was innocent, but he was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. It's the old "Do you still beat your wife?" trick. This is the type of smear propaganda politics the rightwing is so expert in these days. They have no ethics. Everything is about spreading trashy lies and rumors. On the flipside, many Dems including me have accused Bush of going AWOL in 1972. Though Bush released his records, not a single record proves he ever reported. $15,000 in rewards have been out there for years for anyone who can prove Bush reported. No one has even tried to claim those rewards. Bush was definitely AWOl and lied about it on Meet The Press and in other venues.
