Thanks for the detailed note setting me straight on whether Afghan Freedom Fighters were directly recruited and controlled by the CIA or not. But I never said that the US CIA DIRECTLY controlled Osama Bin laden and the Taliban. Only that it financed and supplied arms to him and them. Doing the supply and funding through secrecy or third parties does not invalidate the claim.

While I do appreciate the history and details, I think this is like Powell saying there was no war plan on the PRESIDENT'S DESK. So it was on the coffee table. Or on his clerk's desk. The literalism is meaningless.
