Point 1 is about 5% true, 95% untrue. Unfortunately, the 5% can still wreat a lot of havoc. Sure, nobody can expect Arab gratitude for more that 5 minutes. But for that short time, the Iraqis were grateful. The soldiers keep saying that most of the Iraqis really support and appreciate their efforts, I don't think they're lying. And the Iraqis all know that the rest of the Arab world loved Saddam, so their buy-in into general Arab attitudes is limited.

But I don't think that Iraqis are going to have a democracy either, they don't have a basic understanding of it. Hopefully we can set up a less-than-absolute dictatorship, more on the Jordanian model. But how can America declare that they are fighting to give them a dictatorship?
