This is historically inaccurate, LOL. Their cause was hopeless right from the beginning as anyone with the ability to calculate pig iron production (like Yamamoto: "I fear we only wake a sleeping giant") would know.

They didn't "stop" even when they'd been nuked twice.

They stopped when their emperor told them to quit fighting.
